gone too soon

7/1/2019 - On May 31, 2019 the team at Out Beside You lost a brother and warrior to a long-term battle with substance abuse. About a dozen of Matt’s former platoon members from Afghanistan gathered with over 200 other friends and family at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery to lay him to rest and remember a life that was filled with love and selflessness for his family, his friends, his fellow warriors and the Marine Corps.

“Matty Lu” House

7/1/2019 - In keeping with the long-term mission of Out Beside You, we are pursuing a new initiative to provide transitioning veterans, and those struggling with mental and physical issues as a result of combat, with a permanent place to retreat and recharge should the need arise. Our goal with the Matty Lu House is to provide veterans with a no-frills cabin integrated into the landscape of eastern Nebraska, where they will have time to re-connect with nature and themselves, inside of a structured environment that is based in agriculture and the outdoors. We will be working closely with mental health professionals as well as local governments to ensure that this property, and everything that it provides to veterans, will adhere with local laws and healthcare best-practices.
